Spring Skirmish 2026: post-mortem

Our first spring tournament is in the books. Here is what happened, what worked, and what to improve before Summer Showdown.

Results at a glance

Spring Skirmish was eight teams in two round-robin groups, then a single-elimination playoff. After groups, Victory is Inevitable went undefeated in Group B (3–0) and closed the bracket as champion. Nah We’d Win finished second in that group (2–1) and took runner-up in the final.

What went well

We had a great time hosting this one. it was a lot more chilled than last tournament with not a lot of drama. one of the pain points from Summer Showdown 2 was the fact that the schedule was subject to a lot of last minute changes due to people dropping out or unable to attend matches e.c.t. this time around it was a lot more stable and we were able to stick to the schedule. which was great for people and for us.

We also had a lot of new people join the community and it was great to see them. as well as a few returning players and teams. we still want to grow the tournament and even though this was a smaller tournament with 8 teams instead of 11 teams. it was still good.

The tournament overall just flowed a lot better. this can be attributed to the fact that we can eliminate spectator delay to get into games quicker as well as organising the teams a lot better this time around

What we would adjust

There were a few bugs with the overlays. sometimes visual glitches, and more notably missing player names in champ select, incorrect scores and the absence of many overlays in day two due to scheduling conflicts (Thanks shade for stepping in to cover me). hopefully these minor bugs can be fixed. but overally The new overlays did their job, but we still want fewer rough transitions and learn how to better use them.

There was a lot of downtime than i would have liked and a lot of dead air. We need to improve on this and have more content to keep people engaged. hopefully we can get some more content creators to help us out with this.

Another big one is casting. we simply do not have enough casters. Shoutouts to Alexis for casting a lot of the early games. and thanks to all casters who stepped up for the later games. but we need to improve on this and have more casters to cover more games and not have to rely on a few people to cover all the games.

Conclusions

Overall the tournament was a success. it ran a lot smoother and spreading it over 4 days instead of 3 i think helped with giving players more flexibility. we got to try out some new stuff and learn a lot from it. we will be carrying some of this into Summer Showdown.
